A whole new Internet generation craves a sense of connection, belonging, community, and they discovered that a new generation of games and gaming platforms like Roblox, Minecraft, Zepeto, Fortnite and others, are their new playgrounds, their new sandboxes. It’s no surprise that for the over 500 million daily users of “metaverse-like” platforms, virtual worlds in 3D became a part of the social fabric for a generation that born into the iPhone era.
Alongside the “user”, there’s the “creator”. Minecraft and #YouTube sparked the perfect storm, culminating in Minecraft becoming the first “brand” to hit a trillion views on YouTube, and here’s the kick: Minecraft didn’t create any of the videos that generated these trillion YouTube views. Boom. Roblox on the other hand is likely one of the world’s biggest platforms that teaches kids to code. It then inspires these kids to become game developers and UGC creators, and then enemies to make a living and even start businesses, sone of which generate millions in annual revenue. Epic Games with Fortnite Creative is well on its way to establish another mega platform for creators.
Brands are taking notice. They come to these platforms to tell the study of their brand. To connect and build community. They enter these next gen platforms to be relevant. Hundreds of brands launched an activation in one of these platforms over the past 18 months, and were just getting started. Why? Because virtual worlds are becoming the besting heart of digital communities as we evolve the internet into a 3D environment. It’s not happening over night but the evolution is rapid and it will take human attention by storm. Fall behind and you’ll miss on being relevant. Nothing is worse than losing relevancy.
Here’s the thing - the metaverse is not about technology. It’s about human expression, and the rebels are taking over.
The rebel user
The rebel creator
The rebel brand.
It’s happening.
It’s wild.
And it’s changing everything.
