Roblox and Fortnite: Daily Users & Age Groups
Data shows a different picture than what you may have thought

Building every day on a platform like Roblox and keeping an eye on other emerging platforms like Fortnite Creative, I like to ensure we keep a close tab on the data related to daily active users and the age demographic.
Looking at official data as well as estimates, an interesting picture emerges - Roblox is clearly no longer a platform where kids play kids games. According to official data from Roblox’s earning reports, of its 67 million daily active users, 55% are over age 13 (~37 million), and 33% of total users (~22 million) are between age 17-24, which is the fastest growing age group on the platform. On the other side, Fortnite (inclusive of Fortnite Creative), has an estimated 25 million daily active users, of which 63% (15.8 million) are between age 18-24.
And so, an interesting observation emerges - at the moment, Roblox has more daily active users than Fortnite in the 17-24 age group (not just in total).
As I wrote in a previous letter, Roblox and Fortnite Creative could, and should, succeed together. I see more complementary elements between the two platforms than differences. Roblox is clearly the most dominant social platform where people under age 18 spend their time to play and socialize, while also growing significantly with the above 13 audience, with Fortnite continuing to grow its core Fortnite audience and with with Fortnite Creative 2.0, promises to attract not only a new generation of developers but also new audiences who want to play and socialize with Fortnite-related games and experiences.
If you are a brand builder, marketer or an IP owner, you really want to take a holistic approach to why and how you can engage your brand with these platforms, and what would be the most effective strategy to do so. Understanding the user data, and especially who’s the audience that participates in these communities, can help you craft a more effective approach for what type of experiences you should be building in each of these platforms.
This is a great timing to change your perception of how you are assessing the role that Roblox and Fortnite Creative play in the future of how people play and socialize on the Internet, and what it means for your brand.
