This Week in the Metaverse: EP.13
Roblox Earnings & Growth Trajectory, Unity’s China Partners & AppLovin Approach, SIGGRAPH Highlights
On the 13th episode of This Week In the Metaverse, Yon and Matthew dive into a few key topics and circle back to ones from recent weeks with additional color and updates. As always, we try to provide unique context and expertise on these topics given our various backgrounds and experiences.
First, we dive in to Roblox’s financial results for the second quarter of 2022, look at some of the key numbers for a strong July and look ahead to the platform’s future prospects. Yon also gives a good overview of what, as someone building a business on Roblox, he is most keen to track.
Then, we circle back to Unity to discuss the company’s China joint venture partners and what that means for its development in the country. Notably, Unity’s partners include Alibaba, China Mobile, G-Bits, miHoYo, OPPO, PCI Tech, and Douyin Group and for those that follow China tech, there’s two big names that are glaring omissions. We discuss what this means for Unity and the metaverse.
Next, we dive into Unity’s second quarter results and AppLovin’s unsolicited takeover offer for Unity. We discuss what this means for Unity’s advertising business, its metaverse ambitions and its proposed takeover of ironSource.
And then last, we highlight a few announcements that coincided with SIGGRAPH, including Unity partnering with Microsoft Azure, Unity winning a new government contract and Nvidia’s Omniverse Avatar Cloud Engine.
We would love to hear from you with topics and guests that you would like to hear about, and from, on our podcast.
